Same old same old. Since most JWs have no clue what is going on in the real world a bogus story about the UN taking over the world seems to make sense.
Anybody with sense knows the UN can't do s***t about nothin'

IMPORTANT: Elders Mtg at Patterson
by confusa ina witness just informed me about a couple that we know who had their assembly recently, and it was announced at the private elder's meeting that there will be a special meeting with all the elders in the us in patterson.
it was mentioned that we are now living "in the end of end of times" and that the un is talking about prohibiting religions.
has anyone heard of this??

Wow! TV is stupid!
by LtCmd.Lore ini sat down to watch some tv today... our tv only pick up 3 channels.. and stuff worth watching is few and far between.
it's amazing how much mindless drivel is being broadcasted.. .
deal or no deal: where an overactive lunatic runs around the stage hyperventilating, while simultaniously showing off his/her amazing random-number-generator skills by choosing completely arbitrary numbers and winning money for it.

Cheaters is a pretty crazy show. Their camera crew will break into somebodys house like they're the cops or something.
Yes, TV is stupid. Thank goodness for the internet. -

The UN is on the verge of banning religion - JWs favorite rumor
by VM44 inthe un is on the verge of banning religion.. why is this rumor constantly being brought up by the jws?.
the un does not have the power to ban religion, such an act would go against its very charter and its declaration of human rights.. many of the member nations are islamic and would never vote to ban religion as it would undermine their own very existence.. so the idea that the un would or could ban or even consider banning religion is unrealistic.
never going to happen.. but the jws have been whispering that "the un is going to ban religion" for decades....why?

I think everyone is missing the point. The unlikeliness that this will ever happen, and that the UN does not have the power to ban religion is what makes this prophecy so powerful. It is God that maneuvers things for the ban to happen. This will be the ultimate sign that Armageddon is about to occur.
Damn straight.
I never quite understood how this would actually work out. There are people in this world that will blow themselves up with a bomb before they give up their religion, but yet the UN can do it in one fell swoop? Totally lame. -

Very old rumor. The way I heard it there was a JW couple who where on a cruise. During dinner time the couple begins to "witness" to some people they are sitting close to. They are telling these people about how eventually the U.N. is going to wipe out religion.
That's when the husband they are talking to speaks up and says "I work for the UN and can verify that we are planning to do that!"
Heard this story around 3-4 years ago. -

Are We Any Better Than the Witnesses?
by Caljuher ini have just been on this board a short time.
i have been visiting it for years, however, via the freeminds site since i left the jws in the late 1990s.. but there is so much anger and pain and hatred--especially for people who still want to believe in some kind of god or religion--on this board that it doesn't seem to be so healthy of a place.
why so much hate?

There are people who have a lot of anger. Some is justified, some really isn't. To each his own.
The WTS has created a lot of pain. For me it was easy to look past it all. I really don't have any anger towards anybody there.
I think an important thing to recognize about this board is that the people here are all at different stages in their life. Some are still in the Watchtower, some are in the process of leaving, some have been gone for years. There is a lot of variety here and I don't think it can all be summed up into one description. -

What was it that "clicked" w/ you that this wasn't the "true religion"?
by cognac infor me, it was not being able to prove that people were going to be resurrected to earth... i'm still not sure of the answer, but for some reason that just started this huge, fast snowball of different things that i couldn't prove... .
this lightbulb just went off in my head... .

It came when I began to look back at how I came to believe it was the truth. I started to realize that I reached a certain point where I was just believing everything they where telling me and did not test it out.
Once I realized that most of what I believed relied upon a high level of faith in the WTS I saw how possible it was that I could have been duped. That's when I started my journey out. -

Hardcore evangelical intellectual just fell for an enlightened JW girl
by Stuartmc ini'm new here, but am mightily impressed with the insights, care and compassion exhibited here.
i like to briefly share my story and receive some insights and "good counsel" from you good folks.
here goes- i'm a 49 year old lawyer, whose been divorced for 8 years.

There are many people out there like her. They have had many social problems within the JW sect, but nothing has ever pushed them to question or doubt that the entire system is true. They usually blame themselves a lot and have low self esteem.
You may be able to show this girl why the JWs are not the truth, but if she doesn't listen or is not interested then you better walk away. JWs that stay on the fence like that usually allways try to go back because they believe the root of their problems is themselves and that life will be better "once I clean myself up for Jehovah".
She leaves the JWs and tries to make herself happy (with non-jw relationships) and when it doesn't work she goes back to the religion. It's a typical pattern. -

"New" Pioneer School
by sovereign inany news about the "new" pioneer school?
anyone who has some material available?
has the "shining as illuminators"-book been updated?
-
drew sagan
The Pioneer School was updated a few years back I believe. The book is differant I believe.
There was an announcement that people who attened the 1st Pioneer School decades ago might be eligable to come back and go to the new school. People who have gone to the old school within the past decade or so arn't going to be allowed to go back.
It's in a KM somewhere. -

Bethel layoffs in 2008 - 300+ and counting
by sir82 infrom the mouth of one of the special pioneers assigned tour congregation:.
at least 300 have been terminated from the us bethel branch in the first month of 2008, and she expects the number to increase.
paraphrasing other comments:.

Bethel is under no obligation to keep you there if they don't have work for you or if you represent a possible insurance liability. Maybe some kind of disaster is going to hit New York City in the near future. Only a hateful person would use such ordinary behavior to slam JW's. Kind of like Judas worrying about the money box.
You write really good satire :)
Keep it coming.
